Design and Implementation of a Digital Code Lock using Arduino

Security is a vital concern around the world and it has been major thread for all confidential departments. This work is based on Arduino and is used for the security purpose. .Arduino is an open-source prototyping platform based on easy-to-use hardware and software. Arduino uses an ATmega328 microcontroller. As security is very essential now a day, so by using this project only the authorized person will be allowed to enter by entering the correct password. The circuit is tested in proteous and is working. It is very simple, cost effecting and secure. The lock can be open if the password entered is correct and match to the password which is already stored in the internal memory. It also consist a LCD display which is used to interface with the project to output lock status. This project can be used in ATMs, doors of houses, lockers, offices and anywhere where security is needed.

Due to the advancement in science and technology all over the world, there is a significant increase in the rate of crime and sophistication in crimes; as a result, it is necessary to ensure the security of one’s self and one’s valuable belongings. The main goal of this paper is aimed at creating an electronic security system capable of detecting an intruder and reporting to security personnel. The design of the microcontroller based electronic digital lock with security notification uses a four-digit pass key for its operation. The operation involves opening the door, closing the door, changing of password and alarm upon wrong password entry. It is important for use in Bank Vaults, Hotels, Offices and can also be used in our homes. The research objectives were achieved with the use of microcontroller which programs the ATMEGA328P microprocessor and interfaces it with all the other components in the circuit. In the end, the circuit was able to activate the relay switches for opening.

The need for strict security measures has been necessary since the beginning of time. Access to certain places and items need strict restrictions to only the privileged few. This restricted zone can vary from strong holds and safes in financial institutions to doors leading to restricted areas. The various innovations in security access system include; code based lock, keycard lock, thumb print scan, retina scan. They come in handy in security systems. Code based locking system is best suited in most applications because of its simplicity and reliability. Since the code based locking system is always resident in the area to be protected, there are fewer chances of security breaches unlike the keycard lock system in which the access card can fall into unauthorized hands. Furthermore, in the issue of maintenance, the access code can easily be changed at will with lesser cost unlike in the case of keycard system where a new set of access cards are required. The design and operational principles of a microcontroller based code locking system is the subject of the thesis.The project is made of a keypad unit for entering the access code, a dynamic display unit that displays different messages at specific time, a door controller section made up of a H-bridge driver IC that controls the movement of the motor attached to the door and an alarm system that triggers when the conditions are bridged. The whole system is controlled by an 8051 based microcontroller (89s51).

Features like digitization of lockers and One-Time Password (OTP) are used for enhancement of security of lockers and privacy of the users. This project proposes a Digital Code Lock using Microcontroller that provides Security. It will allow you to enter an OTP (which is generated, sent to Owners mobile and stored in microcontroller Memory). After the OTP is entered the locker opens if it matches with the stored OTP.

The proposed system is intended to protect electrical appliances with a simple lock system. As for passcode, a 4 bit binary number is used. To input the pass code, four two state switches are utilized. The pass code is stored in a memory. It can be changed after unlocking the lock system using valid pass code. We use D type flip-flops as memory. The comparator unit compares input codes with the stored code to generate the signal required to open the lock. The system is hardware implemented and has the versatility in application.

— The purpose of this project is to provide security at (house, ATM, office etc.) in this system the user will have to register a unique password. The information will be stored in data base. Whenever the right password will be received, the controller will accordingly give instruction to dc motor. Dc motor will perform the action on door unlocking. The increasing rate of crime, attacks by thieves, intruders and vandals, despite all forms of security gadgets and locks still need the attention of researchers to find a permanent solution to the well being of lives and properties of individuals. To this end, we design a cheap and effective security system for buildings, cars, safes, doors and gates,so as to prevent unauthorized person from having access to ones properties through the use of codes, we therefore experiment the application of electronic devices as locks.However, a modular approach was employed in the design in which the combination lock was divided into units and each unit designed separately before being coupled to form a whole functional system. During the design, we conducted Twenty tests with the first eight combinations being four in number, the next seven tests being five and the last five combinations being six. This was done because of the incorporation of 2 dummy switches in the combinations. From the result obtained, combinations 8, 11, 13 gave the correct output combination. However, 8 being the actual combination gave the required output. The general operation of the system and performance is dependent on the key combinations. The overall system was constructed and tested and it works perfectly.

The necessity of a low cost electronic home security system designed in coordination with other security measures is always there in our society to reduce the risk of home intrusion. Keeping this problem in mind, we are working on a project on automatic password based door lock system. We want to utilize the electronic technology to build an integrated and fully customized home security system at a reasonable cost. We hope this project will be useful in keeping thieves, dacoits and other sort of dangers at bay.
